Seeds Coffee
Birmingham’s newest coffeehouse offers a performance destination for the city’s acoustic enthusiasts. Located in West Homewood, Seeds Coffee held its grand opening on Saturday, April 13.
In addition to a pleasant atmosphere and savory selection of fair trade coffees, Seeds features regular live entertainment. The tried and true coffeehouse singer/songwriter fare is well represented, but the folks at Seeds are open to exploring other genres and forms of meaningful expression, including spoken word.
“From the beginning, the vision for Seeds has always been about community and we hope to be a creative outlet for the local artist, musically and beyond,” says Drew, who handles booking at the coffee shop. “We want to create a diverse atmosphere that welcomes talent and audiences within all scopes of music and art for that matter.”
The stage is immediately noticeable when you walk through the door. It’s positioned front and center before the seating area, and banquet chairs can be arranged for show nights. “We wanted to be a place where local musicians loved to play and audiences loved to listen,” says drew. “For this reason, we designed a stage and sound system that help feature the artist instead of hiding them in the background.” Expect open mic nights and songwriter rounds to accompany the regularly scheduled acts.
Seeds opened their roasting facility in West Homewood over a year ago, and have worked diligently to establish a café next door. “We recognized long before that coffee has a tremendous potential to build community,” says Drew. “So we long to utilize the resource of coffee to foster relationships with patrons, artists, employees, and anyone else that may set foot through our door.”
Seeds Coffee is located at 174 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209.
