This Saturday, July 29, Mason Music Fest returns with a full day of live music at Avondale Brewing.

This year’s lineup features Futurebirds, Colony House, The New Respects, The Secret Sisters, Annie DiRusso, and Carver Commodore. The festival starts at 1 p.m. with performances by Mason Music student bands, as the organization offers opportunities like this for its students to show what they’ve learned on real stages. The 2023 headliner, Futurebirds, goes on at 8:45 p.m.

This year’s vendors include Simply Sonequa Pound Cakes for something sweet, plus Cala Coffee if you need a little caffeine. Cala will have iced coffee and nitro cold brew on hand if you prefer something cool on a hot summer day. Jaycee’s Snow and Mo makes snow cones, but if you work up an appetite during the fest, you could also order heartier fare like their loaded nachos or pulled pork. Of course, guests 21 years old and up can cool off with any of Avondale Brewing’s craft beers as well.

While you’re enjoying the music, you might imagine yourself on that stage, or maybe you’ve brought someone along who later expresses an interest in learning an instrument. That’s where Mason Music can help.

“If you are aspiring to be in a band, perform, and start your music journey, then Rock Band League is the perfect place to start,” says Ashlyn Key, Marketing Assistant at Mason Music.

In the spring and fall, registration for Mason Music’s Rock Band League opens to allow aspiring musicians to join up with friends or match with others in their age range and current skill level. As musicians learn through the program, they have opportunities to perform in venues around Birmingham leading up to a Battle of the Bands.

You can order your tickets online in advance. General admission is $49, and VIP tickets are $150 each. This year’s VIP perks include a special VIP space near the stage, a separate entrance to skip the box office, and quick access to the bar. Proceeds benefit the Mason Music Foundation, a non-profit designed to connect families who qualify for financial assistance with scholarships for music lessons.
