The Heavy Hearts Kickstart New Album

The Heavy Hearts (Lauren-Michael Sellers and Zac Baldwin) are currently in the process of making their first full length album! The record will include 13 songs from the duo’s set. The Heavy Hearts have performed throughout Birmingham and the Southeast for the past year, and have developed a catalogue of strong leads, sweet harmony, and smart instrumentation.

Lauren and Zac have a natural chemistry, and they’ve honed their performance to become one of Birmingham’s most got-it-together folk acts. Lauren’s lead vocals are dynamic and heartfelt. Her finger-style acoustic on live favorites like “The Boy from Iris Glen” add an engaging foundation for the impressive rise and fall of her voice. Zac’s guitar and harmonica accompaniment demonstrate his sense of subtlety, weaving in and out of the song with timely fills and lead lines.

The record will be produced by Les Nuby, who along with his time with Verbana and Vulture Whale, has produced and appeared on a host of excellent albums. The duo work with Nuby in Birmingham’s own Ole Elegante Studios. Jason Hamric will mix and master the tracks.

The recording process is a strenuous one, and the duo must meet certain expenses to make this album a reality. The Heavy Hearts must raise a total of $3,000 to meet production costs, so they have launched a kickstarter campaign to cover the time and work involved. Pledge perks range from personalized letters to signed records with all sorts of behind-the-scenes extras. “You pledge an amount to your convenience and comfort, and your hard-earned cash does not get charged or taken until our project reaches 100 percent,” says Sellers. “That means we have to reach our goal of $3,000 if we want to see a cent!”

The band is on their way, and your pledge can make a difference. The Heavy Hearts have until August 28 to raise funds for the recording process. You can make a pledge here.
