Cask and Drum will take place on Saturday, October the 12 from 11 p.m. to 11 p.m. Located in the grass area on First Avenue South between the Red Mountain Expressway and 28th Street South, this “social gathering of sound and spirit” combines great music with good food, wine, and beer.

The Lakeview Association approached Scott Register from Reg’s Coffee House in hope of creating an event that united the entertainment district in Birmingham. He then found local support from WorkPlay, TicketBiscuit and Birmingham Mountain Radio. “Cask and Drum just came together naturally,” explains Register. “It was the right place and the right time.”

Cask and Drum will have two stages. One stage will feature national acts such as Dwight Yoakam and Shovels and Rope. The second stage will host regional talent by Reg’s Coffee House and will have performers like the Kopecky Family Band, The Lonely Wild, and Courtney Jaye. “We’re really not comparable to other events. We aren’t trying to replace other events; we just want to put on a good show for our artists and patrons,” says Register.

Some of Birmingham’s best local food trucks will cater the event. Attendees can enjoy lunch and dinner from Melt and Cantina and desserts with Dreamcakes and Nola Ice.

International Wines & Craft Beer will provide the beverages for the tasting. The tasting will last for two and a half hours and will feature wine like Boneshaker Zinfandel, Butternut Chardonnay, Willamette Pinot Noir, and beer like Caldera IPA, and Evil Twin Bikini Beer to name a few.

There are three levels of tickets: General Admission, Cask Pass, and VIP (Very Important Palate). The Cask Pass will allow access to the wine and beer tasting. The VIP pass will provide a designated spot by the stages along with free food and drinks all day provided by Slice.

Cask and Drum is expected to sell out and VIP passes are no longer available. During a special early bird sale, tickets sold out within days. Todd Coder, director of business development for TicketBiscuit, stated that ticket sales show that “Birmingham is ready for events of this size and nature.”

Cask and Drum is partnering with Race for the Cure, which is also on October 12. Participants in the Race for a Cure will receive a five dollar discount on general admission tickets when they present their race bib at the ticket stand. Cask and Drum will then donate five dollars for each ticket sale to Race for a Cure.

Attendees are welcome to bring a blanket and stadium chairs and one sealed water bottle but no lawn chairs will be allowed. As Register explains, “We want to create an enjoyable experience for everyone so they’ll want to come back again.”
