Record Store Day 2019

The twelfth annual Record Store Day is coming up on April 13, and Birmingham’s three record stores are preparing for their busiest day of the year. With over 200 exclusive releases, limited runs, and first releases scheduled for this year’s event, it’s an exciting day for everyone from casual music lovers to vinyl enthusiasts.

On top of their wide selection of Record Store Day exclusive releases, Charlemagne Record Exchange in Five Points will also be offering 20% off nearly everything else in their store. Their day will also feature an in-store performance from Birmingham native Dan Sartain at 11:30 a.m.

Renaissance Records in Five Points will be opening early at 8 a.m. to give their customers plenty of time to find the releases they’re looking for. They will also be offering a sale on their used merchandise. “Everyone seems to be in a really good mood. It’s going to be crazy,” says store owner Gary Bourgeois. “We’re mostly focused on the customers and helping people find the Record Store Day releases that they’re looking for.”

Seasick Records in Crestwood will be kicking off the Record Store Day festivities a little early with a Pre-Party at Crestwood Coffee Company on Friday, April 12. Tickets for the event cost $40 and include drink tickets, snacks, and a guaranteed spot at the front of the line when Seasick Records opens. The party starts at 10 p.m. on the 12th and ends when Seasick Records opens at 8 a.m. on the 13th. You can pick up tickets for the party at Crestwood Coffee Company.

Record Store Day at Seasick will feature DJ sets all day long from artists like Grover, The Audiovore, and DJ Hollywood. The highlight of the day will be a special 1 p.m. in-store performance by John Paul White, a former member of Grammy award winning duo The Civil Wars. White will be celebrating the release of his newest album “The Hurting Kind” which will be available worldwide on April 12. The deluxe version of the album will be released for Record Store Day. Seasick will also be offering a complementary Tito’s Handmade Vodka Bloody Mary bar for the event.

Continuing the celebration, Seasick records has partnered with Mom’s Basement in East Avondale and Yellowhammer Creative for a limited release vinyl record of local bands Bright Knives and HelioHeart. Mom’s Basement will be hosting a release show starting at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds from the show will benefit Girls Rock Birmingham.
