Paint the Town Red 2013

This Saturday, starting at 7 p.m., The Jefferson/Shelby County Red Cross will present fifth annual Paint the Town Red digital arts festival. This arts and music festival/fundraiser has brought thousands of spectators to the intersection of 19th Street South and Powell Avenue each year. The event features graphic art, digital photography, and animated shorts, all projected onto the surrounding architecture. This year, 35 artists will have work shining on the Southside structures.

In addition to stunning visual art, Paint the Town Red also features several stages and a host of musicians. “While Paint the Town Red is an art festival, we love to use the event to showcase the fantastic local and regional musical talent we have,” says PTTR rep Sherri Ross Walters. “We strive to bring in musicians from across the spectrum of genres, from indie rock to R&B.”

In addition to three stages for acoustic and electric  performances, the festival will include a 22 foot high structure known as the GeoDome. The dome is a continuously changing art display, as images are projected onto the interior and shine thorough the walls. DJs will also perform within the dome.

Paint the Town Red will run from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are available online, $15 in advance, or $20 at the event. Proceeds from the festival benefit the American Red Cross. You can volunteer to help here.
